MISSION Adventure Race TESTIMONIES FROM 2007 MISSION PARTICIPANTS “What another great year! As I mentioned Saturday night after we finished, you keep setting the bar higher each year. Great mix of challenges - I enjoyed going back and forth between disciplines - and the surprises along the way. As I'm sure everyone has commented on, that water tower rappel was truly a highlight - and very unexpected. That was very, very cool. The traverse was great - it was the first time in 5 years that I had to do a traverse with my bike. I learned that I'm not very good at it, but it was a nice addition. I guess I have something to practice in the backyard now. :) Anyway, thanks for all your work, as well as for all of the work your staff and volunteers put into the race as well. I know how hectic things can sometimes be behind the scenes - I've found out just how tenuous things can be having directed [an adventure race] the last two years. I don't know if you had any fires you had to put out or moments of panic or anxiety behind the scenes, but from the racers point of view, I couldn't imagine a more smooth race. I always look forward to Mission - I've only missed one of them in the past. The format is perfect and the quality is always high. I'm already planning on doing it again next year. “ “You and your crew did an awesome job. Thanks for a great race!! Looking forward to Mission '08!” “Just wanted to say thanks for an awesome time this past weekend. I can't even begin to imagine the time and effort put into it. It was the first time doing anything like this for our team and we had a blast. As a matter of fact, when we registered and they gave us a number, one of our guys said "Cool, this is the first time I've ever had a number!" :-) We learned alot that day and met some cool people. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved, especially the ropes crews and the folks loading boats on the truck at the end. They all were arguably working harder than the racers.” “I was so impressed with you and your organization and all you had coordinated. Wow. What an exciting event to have here! I know people all over the area were buzzing about it”. -Katherine Taul, Executive Director, Ripley County Tourism Bureau “Thanks Brian – my kids really enjoyed sleeping in the cabin with the “racers” and seeing all the activity in the morning. The race was a lot of fun – lots of variety even for us weekend athletes. We enjoyed this race a lot more than [another adventure race] and will recommend that the rest of our team sign up for this one next year. Thanks again for a fun event!!” “I had a great time at this years Mission , I especially liked the two fixed ropes areas.” “Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know what a great time I had doing the Mission Lite at Versailles . It was so much fun combining the outdoor activities I enjoy and it really leveled the playing field with the instructions and navigating. The mountain biking was the biggest challenge, but also the most rewarding to finish. I hope you'll continue to include the Mission Lite in coming years. I'd love to try it again and I'm already thinking about a better game plan. Thanks!” “Great race this past weekend. We thought the venue was fantastic.”
TESTIMONIES FROM 2006 MISSION PARTICIPANTS “We had an awesome time racing in Indy! The race was challenging and very well run, thanks for that. I wanted to touch base with you and let you know that we, Team Wellsport, have entered into the National Championships… Thanks again for all the work and for entertaining us for the weekend!” “First of all, thank you for organizing such a great event. The planning was superb and there was no confusion. It was definitely a learning experience (I think next year we'll bring a UTM plotting tool!), but we still had a blast. “ “Once again – I think this is one of the best run races I've attended—everything from the course, to the folks helping with the ropes and other manned CPs, to the before- and after-events makes this my favorite race of the year. Keep it up, and thanks for everything you and your entire race staff did & do…” “I wanted to drop you a line and thank you for putting on yet another great race. As always, Mission was fun and full of surprises. Despite being in the same general geographical location each year, you've done a great job of continuing to add new sites and locations, and thus keeping the race fresh. Occasionally we came across places we had seen before, and frankly, I really liked seeing something familiar now and again. The mud bog/lake and the levee dam from the first orienteering section were particularly fun – and walking across the top of the levee was definitely an adventure. The special challenge at the pond – leap frog from boat to boat – was interesting and unique. You also did a great job of coming up with the biking routes. I loved the off road variety – for instance the old railroad trail, the ATV trail by CP 14 and the trail where you gave us the choice to trek or ride. Plus, we had ample opportunity to trek across the river (with and without our bikes). Thanks to all the volunteers as well. They were very friendly and helpful, and I very much appreciate their willingness to volunteer their time. Great job and we'll be looking forward to next year's Mission .” TESTIMONIES FROM 2005 MISSION PARTICIPANTS "Just wanted to drop you a quick line saying thanks for putting on a great race this past Saturday. I've done a lot of adventure races and yours was top notch all the way. Please thank all your volunteers for me. I enjoyed the rope sections and it's always nice to do a race where the check points are really where the coordinates say they will be. Looking forward to the race next year. Thanks for all your hard work putting the race together." "We had a great time and [we are] already planning our next adventure!" TESTIMONIES FROM 2004 MISSION ON THE MUSCATATUCK PARTICIPANTS "Another fine job with the Mission AR. The new course was just as good, if not better, than last year. Once again the paddle was the highpoint of the race. The Muscatatuck River is just too cool. Also, you guys out-did yourselves with the rope courses. The rock climb was a real surprise (lucky for me we had the option of using ascenders). Then the zip line was a real treat. I don't know how you pack so many events into an 18 hour AR. It's definitely worth more than the entry fee. The one thing that puzzles me though is why you didn't sell out the event. There must be a lot of adventure racers that just haven't heard of this event yet. Keep up the good work and I'll see you next year." " Mission on the Muscatatuck was a very fun race and we look forward to it next year." TESTIMONIES FROM 2003 MISSION ON THE MUSCATATUCK PARTICIPANTS "Congrats on a great race - certainly challenging and well-run." "Great race, very organized, especially being your first annual adventure race." "See you next year and thanks!" "I just wanted to write and tell you what a great time I had at DINO's inaugural adventure race. I've been doing ARs for three years (from various race directors) and yours was as good (or better) as any I have done. If you wouldn't have told me this was DINO's first attempt at staging an AR, I never would've guessed. The (ROGAINE-type) race format was unique and made for a interesting race. Initially I was a little unsure of how it was going to work out scoring-wise, but it ended up working flawlessly. In fact, I have decided that I prefer such a format. The course was challenging without having any one segment too mind-numbingly long. Very well put together." "I just wanted to drop a little note and let you know how much I (and we as a team) enjoyed the adventure race last weekend. It was very well put together and organized and we could tell you spent a lot of time and effort in getting the race put together." "It was one of my favorite courses to date, not biased with the mountain biking. Ha! Had a great time!" "First of all thanks for putting on a great race. The team is already talking about next year. It was our first race and we definitely weren't disappointed." "In short, I absolutely loved the race. Not knowing anything beforehand was awesome and I really enjoyed it. Mystery definitely makes it more of an adventure." |
