Running on trails often provides opportunities to get your feet wet, with adventures such as stream crossings, puddles, mud, and damp grass. A cold squishy feeling may be harmless, but blisters can result, causing a much more unpleasant situation. You may not be able to avoid the water, but you can minimize its impact on your feet. Here's how. -Plan your route. Look ahead rather than straight down so you have time to react to wet spots and choose the driest route. -Step lively. Quick steps give water less time to penetrate your shoes. Minimize the time your foot is on the ground. -Wear the right socks. Good wicking socks will help move water (and sweat) away from your foot. -Wear the right shoes. Most trail running shoes are more waterproof than regular running shoes. Look for a knowledgeable running shoe store.
