270 brave trail runners ventured to Eagle Creek Park on a brutally cold and windy morning; with a wind chill under 20 degrees. An exciting race unfolded on the trails, however, with some new winners taking places along familiar DINO champions.

An unusual series of events shaped the end of both the 5k and 15k men's races. In the 5k, Lance Nelson and Andy Wallace were just a step apart coming around a final sharp turn, in sight of the finish line, when Nelson slipped and fell. Wallace seized the moment and won in 20:37, with Wallace 8 seconds back.

At the 15k finish, two runners approached together - Aaron Moody and Jason Medler. The two came across the finish line together at 55:59, intentionally tying for first. George DeWitt followed by 18 seconds.

The women's winners were Cindy Harris followed closely by Shelly Davis in the 5k, and Melissa Beaver with a solid victory in the 15k, at 1:07:58. Second went to Kristi Lippencott.

Following the race, runners huddled in a large tent to keep warm. The Extreme Outfitters and FlexFitt provided several door prizes worth waiting for, while Bryon Horn of FlexFitt offered free stretching and sports therapy throughout the event.

The next race in the series is Saturday, April 16, in Avon, Indiana. Avon is a short drive west of Indianapolis.
