Records broken at Eagle Creek DINO Trail Run

330 runners and walkers registered for the March 13 race, making it the largest DINO Trail Run. In addition, the top male runners set new course records on both 5k and 15k course, which was used as a DINO event in 2001 and 2003.

Steve MacIntyre (Lafayette, IN) dropped a pack of contenders by over 3 minutes to set the 15k course record at 52:51. Sam Shaw, Jacob Cowgill, and Damon Nicholas took 2nd through 4th within 20 seconds of each other.

Joe Golden dominated the 5k, setting a course record of 19:22 on the route filled with stairways, hills, and various other obstacles. Golden's victory shared the podium spots with James Harris and Joe Hoffman.

Although the women set no records, the races were noteworthy nonetheless as Tamara Whitten soundly defeated the 15k women in 1:08:54. Kristy Lippencott and Tina Fearnow took second and third respectively, just a few seconds apart.
Cindy Harris continued her 2+year winning streak in the DINO 5k, followed by Suzanne Riddle and Robin Rizzo.

Runners had the opportunity for free Sportzbizz massages, samples of XS Energy Drink, and a chance to check out new Pearl Izumi products from the Athletic Annex Running Centre. Post-race random prizes included items from these sponsors plus a pair of Rudy Project Skeey Uno sunglasses.

Points have been awarded based on overall finish, and will accumulate throughout the year's 7 races. Each runner can drop his or her lowest 2 scores in pursuit of the series titles. Next stop for the series is Avon, Indiana, on April 17.

Race #2 - Avon, Indiana on April 17

The course at Avon is one of extremes - there are sections of wide, easy pathways interspersed with sections of narrow, steep, and twisty trails. You'll want to make your passing moves when you have the chance. 15k runners will complete 3 laps of the same course.

It's hands-down the best venue in our series to bring family and friends. The action is highly visible from one or two central locations, and with 15k'ers running multiple laps they'll be especially visible. There are also playgrounds and other amenities very nearby for families to enjoy.

After the DINO Trail Run Series, there will be a mountain bike race called the DINO Spring Tune-up. This is a warm-up / practice race for the DINO Mountain Bike Series. It should be a great opportunity to watch mountain bike racing in action or to give it your first try.

Directions: Avon is just west of Indianapolis, between Brownsburg and Plainfield. Go west on US36, 1.3 miles past SR 267. Turn left on County Road 575 E. Turn left again into the park.

Start time is 9:00 am (Indiana Time) with registration opening at 7.
