After the race, check out Doin'it outdoors kayak rentals or mountain bike offerings. www.doingitoutdoors.com The race begins with a mile or two of easy, relatively flat trail skirting the edges of several ravines. Then the course takes a turn for the worse (or better, depending on your attitude) and charges through the ravines and creek valley with a few challenging twists, turns, and climbs. 15k runners will make a single lap, and 5k runners will cut off the longer route and return to the finish. Points toward the series standings should be easier to aquire. This proved to be the case at North Vernon on August 16, where the race had a slightly smaller attendance than Indianapolis locations. Directions: Doin'it Outdoors is northwest of Liberty, IN. From US 27 in Liberty (south of Richmond), take Brownsville Rd (look for Scagg's Oil) West out of Liberty until the road forks at Patterson Rd (look for tree farm signs). Stay right on Patterson to the first left (Byrd Rd). Doin'it Outdoors is on the left after about 1.5 miles. Register by Wednesday, September 24 to save money. The 15k race was dominated by Steve Macintyre, who recently moved to Indiana from Canada. Macintyre ran the hilly 9.3 mile course in 1:01:27. The nearest competitor was Lance Rygiel, at 1:09:52. A minute behind was Mark Doctor, who moved into the lead of the point standings at this race. Rita Ubelhor demonstrated a similar domination of the women's 15k division, ranking inside the top 8 men at 1:15:58. Sarah Huddleston and Susan Grove followed behind by 7 and 10 minutes for second and third, respectively. Tina Fearnow's finish in fourth set her on top of the series standings. Jesse Cacy's win by just one second over Joe Hoffman took him to the top of the chart for the 5k men's series. The close competion in the 5k division saw third place Mark Furkis come in just 4 seconds behind Cacy and Hoffman. Cindy Moll soundly topped the women's 5k field, locking in her series title with an unbeatable 800 points. Second and third in the women's 5k went to Lori Goddard and Angela Minnefield.
