Back to Indy October 23

The DINO Trail Run Series returns to Indianapolis after two stops in other parts of the state. Southwestway Park is an annual favorite on the DINO calendar. Southwestway's 5k loop course routes runners along the White River for an easy first mile, then straight up challenging Mann Hill - twice! 15k runners make 3 laps of the course.

This event is unfortunately scheduled on the same date as another popular trail run race (Knobstone Trail Mini). The two events' race directors have challenged each other to a friendly "duel" - whichever race has the greatest gain over 2003's attendance emerges the winner!
What can you do? Bring everyone you can to one of the two events. Choose your favorite and tell every runner and walker you know. (Of course we hope you choose DINO) Let's see how many people we can get on the trails October 23!

Discounted early registration is open through Wednesday October 20 at Active.com Or print and mail from www.dinoseries.com/docs/TrailRunEntry2004.htm. Entries must be received by Wednesday October 20. Race-day registration is available as well.

Heat & Humidity Slows Runners

A hot, humid day combined with some of DINO's tightest and most technical running trails to produce a challenging day at Doin'it Outdoors. The 15k times were at least 15 minutes longer than average time for other DINO Trail Run Series events.

John Porter pulled away from a lead pack of three runners during the final miles of the 15k to claim his first DINO victory at 1:12:25. Roger Wilson followed, about a minute behind.

Jim Kaiser's third overall, his highest of the series, puts him in the lead of the 15k Men. Standings will change dramatically after races 6 and 7 - the top five scores count toward series standings. Most likely to snag Kaiser's lead is Damon Nicholas, who placed no lower than fourth in the first four races.

Susan Henson's 1:22:03 finish was faster than all but six of the men. Britt Heidinger and Robin Gerhart followed to claim second and third.

The 5k was marked by an unusual sweep by the 20-24 age group, as Nathan Showman, Cory Leas, and Jimmie Haager finished 1-2-3. Showman was the only runner to break 21 minutes. Melissa Beaver posted her third consecutive 5k women's win. Beaver was followed by Cindy Harris and Laura Roby.

Kevin McAndrews and Kim Rogers currently top the 5k standings.

November 20 - Mt Comfort, IN: KOA Kampground - "Steeple-Cross" & "Buddy-Cross"... a new concept for Indiana! Held before the Indy Cyclo-Cross series bike race. Measured by time, not distance; lapping a course of about 1.5 miles of trails, grass, gravel and paved road. You'll go for 30 minutes, plus a final lap. Whoever covers the most ground wins!
"Steeple-Cross" is pure running - but you'll be jumping over several barriers (~18") on the course.
"Buddy-Cross" is more interesting - two people, one bike! You must cross the lap line together each time. You figure out the plan to make it happen.
