A smaller crowd than normal tackled the trails, which began with a fairly easy mile or so before dipping into the area's sharp ravines and picturesque creekside trails. 15k runners first ran the 5k loop, then began a second lap which contained a splitoff to complete the 9+ mile race. Russ Goodman led the pack of 15k'ers after the first loop, with Jacob Cowgill not far behind. During the second loop, Goodman slipped briefly and was passed by Cowgill. Goodman was unable to regain the lead and Cowgill surged ahead for the win by over a minute at 1:01:43. The women's winner in the 15k, Kristy Lippencott, twisted an ankle closing in on the finish and was nearly caught by Tina Fearnow. Fearnow and Lippencott are currently in close contest for the series title. In the absense of Cindy (Moll) Harris - who was on her honeymoon - Angela Minnefield pulled off a 20-second win over Kylie Lippencott in the 5k. Marlin Howe pulled off the Men's 5k win in 21:38, just ahead of Bob Cacy. 15k runner Craig Schenck (owner of Doin'it Outdoors) gained the first place award in 45-49 15k Men, with third overall Alan Bell and Masters Winner Ron Hart receiving overall prizes. The DINO Trail Run Series are in an incredibly close contest going into the final race. The top positions of Men's and Women's 15k, plus the 5k men's, are up for grabs with the results of the November 8 run. Only the 5k women's is locked in - with Cindy (Moll) Harris holding a perfect 800 point score. In the Men's 15k, first place is an exact tie between Russ Goodman and Mark Doctor. Because only the top 4 scores count, Goodman actually has the advantage because he'll drop less than Doctor (assuming both finish in the top 10 overall). Doctor must finish two positions ahead of Goodman to take the series title. The Men's 5k is the most interesting - Jesse Cacy currently leads by one point over James Harris, but after the final race both will drop their lowest score - putting the two in an exact tie. Thus, if both race in the final it will simply be who finishes first that determines the series title. The Women's 15k leader, Tina Fearnow, has a 2-point advantage over Kristy Lippencott. However when their lowest scores are dropped, Fearnow will need to finish 3 women ahead of Lippencott to win the series. Similar battles for position abound further down the charts. Series awards (Pyro Apparel Champion's Singlets) will be distributed as follows: 5k Women - top 5 5k Men - top 7 15k Women - top 3 15k Men - top 9 Series standings: http://www.dinoseries.com/run/results/ ##### DINO TRAIL RUN SERIES CONCLUDES NOVEMBER 8 IN INDY DINO wraps up the 2003 series with a visit to the surprising terain of Southwestway Park.
