Final DINO Trail Run Race - November 13
First time trail runners have the perfect place to try trail running, when the November 13 DINO Series final visits Southeastway Park. It is the easiest course on the DINO Series' calendar.
Southeastway Park is familiar territory for high school cross country. But there's never been a course like DINO's route through the woods! The course is 5k; 15k runners make three laps.
Following the race, series awards will be presented at the "DINO Victory Banquet", 1pm in the Activity Center. Space is limited to 50 people - reserve yours now by sending $15 per person to DINO, PO Box 36395, Indianapolis IN 46236.
Discounted early registration is open through Wednesday November 10 at Active.com Or print and mail from www.dinoseries.com/docs/TrailRunEntry2004.htm. Entries must be received by November 10. Race-day registration is available as well.
Directions: Take I-74 Southeast of Indianapolis to Pleasant View Road Exit. Turn North then immediately right (west) on Michigan Road. After 1/2 mile Michigan Road ends; turn Right onto Carroll Road. Follow Carroll for 1 mile and watch for the park on the left. Registration will be in the park's Activity Center. For More information: http://dinoseries.com/run/schedule/2004/race7.htm |
Rainy Racing at Southwestway Park
A steady rain beginning shortly after the 9 am 15k start time did little to dampen the spirits of hearty DINO Trail Run participants. The Southwestway course provided some challenging hills in the final mile, just prior to
bombing downhill to the finish.
Post-race, Sportzbizz provided free Massage Therapy as a reward to wet, tired runners. The crowd, taking shelter after the race, won a great selection of random prizes, including Rudy Project sunglasses and Athletic Annex gift cards.
First across the finish line was Alex Marchbanks, running the 5k in 19:47. Joe Hoffman and Tye Bowman followed within the next minute. Women 5k finishers began coming in at 23:33 as Kayla McCurdy took top honors. Cindy Harris and Morgan Cacy would round out the top three.
In the 15k, Damon Nicholas and Jacob Cowgill ran away from all challengers by a five minute gap. Nicholas crossed the finish line 25 seconds ahead of Cowgill.
The women's top three were Kristy Lippencott, Britt Heidinger, and Kristi Wozniak.
James Kaiser held onto his 15k Men's series lead, but could be bumped in the final race by Damon Nicholas.
Janet Cole's lead is secure in the Women's 15k series.
Joe Hoffman now has the top 5k Men's Series locked in.
Cindy Harris is also locked in on her way to her 3rd consecutive 5k series title.

Tecumseh Trail Marathon - Filling
Don't delay if you hope to run the Tecumseh Trail Marathon. Entries are steadily coming in as the 2nd event approaches.
The field limit of 500 runners may be reached by race day. Don't miss this amazing experience. It's a point-to-point marathon following a major portion of the Tecumseh Trail, built by the Hoosier Hikers Council. 3500 vertical feet of climbing, multiple small streams, logs, and other obstacles make this a marathon like no other. Best of all, the scenery and solitude is breathtaking!
In addition to the marathon, a 5 mile fun-run will circle Yellowwood Lake.
December 4, 2004: Tecumseh Trail Marathon Bloomington, at Yellowwood State Forest. For More information: http://www.dinoseries.com/marathon

November 20 - Mt Comfort, IN: KOA Kampground - "Steeple-Cross" & "Buddy-Cross"... a new concept for Indiana! Held before the Indy Cyclo-Cross series bike race. Measured by time, not distance; lapping a course of about 1.5 miles of trails, grass, gravel and paved road. You'll go for 30 minutes, plus a final lap. Whoever covers the most ground wins!
"Steeple-Cross" is pure running - but you'll be jumping over several barriers (~18") on the course.
"Buddy-Cross" is more interesting - two people, one bike! You must cross the lap line together each time. You figure out the plan to make it happen. For More information: http://www.dinoseries.com/mtb/schedule/2004/cyclocross.htm
