Series Final, November 18

Join us for the conclusion of the 2006 DINO Trail Run Series! Race #7 is November 18 at Southeastway Park.

Southeastway is one of the easier DINO courses; perfect for first timers. It's spectator friendly - plenty of chances to view the runners as they complete the 5k course (15k runners complete three laps). A new COURSE MAP is available.

Race start time is 9 am. Registration and check-in opens at 7 am.

Race awards and a good batch of door prizes will be presented at 11:15. Kristin Boudreaux of Chiropractic Neurology Center will be on hand to give massage and stretching before and after the race.

Following the race awards everyone is invited to the series awards banquet, where series age group and overall champions will receive their awards. Family and friends welcome. Cost is just $5, thanks to Yats sponsorship of the food. Yats will provide their tasty Cajun cooking (including red beans and rice, chili cheese etoufee with crawfish, vegeterian etoufee, and more.) Space is limited! To reserve your spots, mail payment to DINO LLC, PO Box 36395, Indianapolis IN 46236. Any remaining spaces will be available first-come, first-served on race day.

Directions: Take I-74 Southeast of Indianapolis to Pleasant View Road Exit. Turn North then immediately left (west) on Michigan Road. After 1/2 mile Michigan Road ends; turn Right onto Carroll Road. Follow Carroll for 1 mile and watch for the park on the left.

Pre-register by Wednesday Nov 15. Onsite signup is also welcome.

Extra Hill Challenges SouthWestway Runners

White river crept up onto a low lying section of SouthWestway's trail on October 21, forcing a re-route. The re-route added a very steep up and downhill just before entering the final mile, which presents enough challenge of its own.

It was a beautiful day for a trail race, however, with sun, pleasant temperatures, and gorgeous fall colors. Most runners and walkers were simply satisfied with a good effort and making it to the finish line, but others were racing hard at the front of the pack.

Gabriel Rop jumped in to trail running - big time. His first trail race ever was a 2-minute win in the SouthWestway 15k. (One week later, Rop dominated the Knobstone Trail Mini-marathon 13.1 mile trail race.) He was the only runner to break the hour barrier. Rop's nearest contender was perpetual second place finisher, Scott Fihma. Fihma's consistency has locked in the series win, however. John Schmitz scored third in the 15k, about another minute back of Fihma.
An exciting 15k Women's race developed as Mary Weerts led Cheryl O'Dore by a small margin at each of the lap checks. On the final lap, O'Dore dropped off the pace and Weerts won by 90 seconds at 1:16:43. Jenny LeMoine took the third place award.

The 5k Women's race was even closer, as series leader Whitney Diggs attempted to hold off Kathleen Crlckett. Crocket finished ahead by a mere three seconds, at 24:30. 12 year old Sammy Rush siezed third place for the day.

Tecumseh Trail Marathon Over Halfway Full

The halfway mark to the Tecumseh Trail Marathon's 500-runner limit has been passed. If you wish to enjoy this incredible challenge, don't delay.

Dean Karnazes called the Tecumseh course "Hardcore" in his Endurance 50 quest. Read what he had to say about his October 25 trip through Indiana's Tecumseh Trail: http://enduranceis.typepad.com/
