Southeastway Park Ends Series on Fast Note
Hot off high school cross country, three young men and three young women dominated the podium spots Saturday at the final DINO Trail Run Series at Southeastway Park. Southeastway hosted the Semi-state cross-country meet on October 24, where Pendleton Heights Junior Brock Hagerman won the race (15:19 for the 5k). A
considerably tougher DINO course slowed Hagerman to 16:44, fast enough to win by a full minute over teammate Cole Hardacre. Adam Berning, a Center Grove runner, took third. The women's 5k was swept by high school runners as well, with Charlotte Fillenwarth and Lauren Patterson (both Center Grove runners) taking 1 and 2. Erin Komornik of nearby New Palestine finished a close third.
The 15k races went to names more familiar to the DINO Series. Within 11 seconds of each other at the finish were Jacob Cowgill, Damon Nicholas, and Howard Harrell. Nicholas' finish propelled him to the series title.
Britt Heidinger's win for the 15k Women gave her the series title. Amanda Meyer and Christina Hurt (both 16-19 age group) won second and third.
A solid field of just under 200 finishers enjoyed a beautiful November day, despite a cold start. While some runners longed for the tougher DINO courses, the venue seemed to be quite popular with runners and will appear again on the 2005 DINO calendar.

Tecumseh Trail Marathon Still Open
Spaces are still available - but registration fees go up on November 24!
The field limit of 500 runners may be reached by race day. Don't miss this amazing experience. It's a point-to-point marathon following a major portion of the Tecumseh Trail, built by the Hoosier Hikers Council. 3500 vertical feet of climbing, multiple small streams, logs, and other obstacles make this a marathon like no other. Best of all, the scenery and solitude is breathtaking!
In addition to the marathon, a 5 mile fun-run will circle Yellowwood Lake.

Other Upcoming Trail Run / XC Events
November 20 - Mt Comfort, IN: KOA Kampground - "Steeple-Cross" & "Buddy-Cross"... a new concept for Indiana! Held before the Indy Cyclo-Cross series bike race. Measured by time, not distance; lapping a course of about 1.5
miles of trails, grass, gravel and paved road. You'll go for 30 minutes, plus a final lap. Whoever covers the most ground wins!
"Steeple-Cross" is pure running - but you'll be jumping over several barriers (~18") on the course.
"Buddy-Cross" is more interesting - two people, one bike! You must cross the lap line together each time. You figure out the plan to make it happen. For More information: http://www.dinoseries.com/mtb/schedule/2004/cyclocross.htm |
